What is Younique?
Younique is a multi-level marketing company which sells cosmetic products like lipsticks, mascaras, foundations, and all the goods. This company is relatively new in this niche, as it started back in September 2012. It is founded in 2012 and crafted by siblings Derek Maxfield and Melanie Huscroft. Their manpower has an estimate of 1 million presenters as it grew to become an international brand.
Just like any other MLM company, their income streams from two things: selling their products and selling the business opportunity by recruiting other people.
Let’s first take a look at their products.
What is Younique’s Product Line Composed Of?
Well, you know what you’ll see when you stroll through a random cosmetic store, right? All those highlighters, eyeshadow palettes, primers, and other good stuff. There’s nothing much unique about what they sell. Here is an overview of their cosmetics line.
Makeup
Eyes: eye primer, eyeshadow, eyeliner, brow, and lashes
Lips: lipstick, lip gloss, lip stains, and lip care
Face: concealer, contour, BB cream, foundation, and bronzer & blusher
Skincare
Their skincare line consists of serums, moisturizers, face masks, toners, and cleansers. They also have this feature on their website called Youology in which you could customize your own skincare solution with over 40, 000 possible combinations. You can also take a quiz on skincare to see if you are treating your skin right!
Fragrance
Fragrance line consists of rollerballs, fragrance sets, and signature scents.
Tools
Their tools are composed of makeup sponges, customizable palettes, and brushes for everything: eye, lips, and face.
Collections & Sets
They also have collections for almost everything, as well, ranging from brush sets, eye sets, lip sets, and to face sets.
However, there is this one product in which they claim makes them unique from their competitors. One of their most popular and controversial products is the 3D Moodstruck Fiber Lashes.
They have poured most of their marketing efforts in this product. Younique claims that this mascara is made up of 100% green tea fibers which will increase your lash volume by up to 400 percent. Crazy, right?!
This costs $18.14 on Amazon, without the other add-ons in the package. If we add up the other items in the package, it would cost over at least $40.
Most of their cosmetic products range generally from $19 to $29, while the tools range from around $7.50 to $32.
How Do You Start with Younique?
Is Younique a Pyramid Scheme? Let us find more about their recruitment program.
An MLM company requires a startup cost when you become a member. Younique is no stranger to this.
First, you have to purchase their Presenter Kit in order for you to become a Younique presenter. This kit costs $99. Not so expensive for a start-up cost, right?
Most of the MLMs today require really high start-up costs due to unnecessary expensive products they add on top of the starter package itself.
This Presenter Kit consists of product catalogs containing a list of their product line. You also get your own virtual marketing tools and a virtual party system.
In this virtual party, you get to introduce your friends to Younique by hosting your own virtual party and inviting them to shop. What’s fun here is that you can earn rewards and free Younique products. Nice!
Plus, you get your own domain for you to build a website in which you can sell Younique products directly. This is such a convenient way of marketing and handling products since we live in a fast-paced generation.
On top of all these, the starter kit also includes some basic makeup products like lipsticks, eyeliners, and the like.
Once you buy this Presenter Kit, you are good to go! Yes, nothing more!
Making Money with Younique
Younique is not that different from other MLM companies when it comes to its earning system.
First, you earn money through retail commissions by selling their products to other people. Seems very straight forward, doesn’t it?
You get to be compensated for recruiting other people and building your own downline, as well. You get to have a percent of shares from your downline’s retail commission. Awesome!
So, how do you get compensated with all this work?
Younique’s Unique Compensation Plan
MLMs are widely known for having little to nothing return of profits. Once you start a career in the multi-marketing niche, you start off at the bottom of the pyramid. You don’t earn much once you first start. You get to earn more when you start climbing your way to the top.
Younique’s compensation plan is composed of a very intricate structure. This structure is divided into 4, while also subdividing into 2. There are four types of presenters: entry, exemplary, elite, and exclusive.
Entry presenters are divided into 2: white and yellow. Exemplary presenters are presented by pink and blue. Green and orange make up the elite presenters. Finally, the penthouse is composed of purple and black.
White
You first start off as White. When you are in this rank, you do not have any recruits yet. Your only source of income is your retail commissions. From everything that you sell, only 20% goes to your account. After you bought your presenter kit, for the next 3 months you have to sell Younique products worth at least $125 if you want to secure your position as a presenter. You rank up to yellow once you have sold products worth $1000.
Thank you, next!
Yellow
Not much of a difference here, but when you reach this rank, you earn 25% retail commission. Here, you need to have sold at least $500 worth of products for you not to be deemed inactive.
Pink
You reach pink status once you already have a recruit selling under your name. Here, you have to sell products worth $250. For you to maintain this status, just make sure to sell $2000 worth of products. It might seem like a challenge, in which it is, but you can also gain 3% shares from your recruit’s retail commissions!
We still have a long way to go!
Watch here to see the compensation plan from white to blue in detail.
Go further and see the compensation plan from green to black.
At the very least, let’s talk about the highest status in the pyramid, black.
Black
Once you have paved your way to the top, maximum profits will come streaming to your pocket. Here, you earn 30% commission from your retails. That’s not just it! When you add up all of the percentages of shares you get from your recruits’ retail commission, you earn a total of 48% retail commission! You just have to ensure to sell $500 worth of products and sell $80,000 for you to stay at the top.
Younique’s Red Lights
Makeup or Markdown?
When Younique has the mission of making women feel validated through their products, what’s the first thing you have to do? You have to validate the product first before anything else. Naturally, the products have to be great!
How is Younique supposed to make women feel empowered and beautiful when the products are not even enough to make you buy it? There seems to be a lot of reviews circulating the internet regarding Younique’s products.
One customer claimed that Younique’s product is totally not as safe as one of the lip stains burned the skin of her lips.
Quality wise products? Not so much.
Also, the 3D Moodstruck Fiber Lashes they take so much pride is not really the best one out there. I mean, it does elongate your lashes but it looks very lumpy and insect-like legs. You’d be better off wearing falsies, rather than looking like this.
When you are doing business, it is normal that some customers dislike your product. But when even your employees are hating it, there is definitely something wrong there. I feel sorry for those who are selling their products when even they wouldn’t personally use it at all costs. Some Younique presenters even quit due to the quality of the product. Watch the testimony of a woman who left Younique.
Almost But Not Impossible to Succeed
You’ve seen the list of ranks and how the compensation plan works. Being at the bottom of the pyramid only gives you little to nothing return of profits. It definitely is tough to earn significantly since you have to climb your way all up to the top. Although it is not totally impossible to reach your goals, it would take you years to reach the Black status. Plus, it would take a lot of patience, dedication and hope to keep you going.
Younique’s Green Lights
Social Media Direct Selling
Most MLM companies hold home parties or workshops to sell their products and recruit people. Younique flows in another river.
Included in the Presenter Kit is a domain of your own website in which you can sell Younique products. All you have to do is direct people to your website in any way you prefer, encourage them to buy, and earn your commission.
Neat! There is no need for a storage room or inventory at all.
Also included in the Presenter Kit are your own virtual marketing tools and virtual party system. You could recruit people by hosting a virtual party.

Is Younique a Pyramid Scheme?
If there is one thing in the world I am sure of, that is Younique is definitely not a pyramid scheme. Pyramid schemes only focus on its recruiting program and have no products to sell.
Well, Younique is not a pyramid scheme because they have actual products. Just not so good products, though.
You can be a Younique presenter and make a full-time career out of it. Of course, you are gonna start at the bottom but with a truckload of perseverance, who knows, it might be worth pursuing. If you’re up for the risk, then go for it!
However, even if it is not a pyramid scheme, I would not recommend Younique anyone. If you have any sense of shame, you know that you could not recommend a product to anyone that even you wouldn’t dare use.
