Scentsy was founded by two sisters who are Kara Egan and Colette Gunnell in 2003. Their reason why they started Scentsy because the fragrance can make a person relaxed, calm and even make you connect with others.
Kara and Collete just started selling fragrances on their home, and sometimes if there are some events and local establishments who offer them to sell their products, they did that as well. Back in 2004, they are on a home show somewhere in Utah and selling their fragrances, when someone named Orville Thompson. He became interested in the fragrances that Kara and Colette are selling, he says that it can be something big product in the future.
And then a few months after Thompson met the two sisters, he decided to buy the little business of Kara and Colette. And Orville Thompson together with his wife Heidi decided to turn it into an MLM company. And in the same year, they had their first consultant to sell their products.
Now, Scentsy became more successful after 15 years since it was established. They have now over 90000 independent consultants across the globe. They are currently accepting consultants from Mexico, Canada, Guam, the United States, Puerto Rico, France, Germany. Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Austria, Australia, and Spain. And based on some reports, they are considering expanding it to other countries in the near future.
How Does Scentsy Work?
Just like the other MLM companies, Scentsy does have a compensation plan that they follow. They also have a different level of membership or consultant level, and this is where your monthly earning will depend. In every purchase you have, you also get points for that.
But before that, you must be an official consultant of Scentsy to enjoy their benefits. They will require you to sign up through another Scentsy consultant then once you pay for the associated fee for the membership, you can start right away to sell and promote the products.
Their Starter Kit costs $99 plus shipping fee of $10 and this includes a wax warmer, catalogs, wax testers and product samples which you can use to promote the product and sell it. It is very important to know more about the products so you can promote it in an effective way. Because in order for you to maintain your consultant level, you have to meet the required minimum number of points in a month which is 200 points, and you get these points by purchasing a product and sell it.
Consultants can be promoted or demoted on their level of membership depending on the number of points they have. Scentsy does have a different level of membership and it includes a commission based on your level. The lowest percentage of commission is 20% and the highest is at 25%.
Since Scentsy is an MLM company, another way you can earn money is through your downlines, which means there are the people you recruit to join the company. And the total commission is around 9% and will still depend on the level of membership that you have on that specific month.
How Much Can You Make With Scentsy?
When it comes to how much you will earn with Scentsy, it will always be depending on your level of membership and how much worth of products you were able to sell in that specific month. However, based on last year’s income disclosure statement of Scentsy, their consultants earned a commission at around 20% to 36% but still based on their total sales.

What I Don’t Like About Scentsy.
If I am going to talk about what are the things I don’t like about Scentsy, maybe one of those is their compensation plan. I find it very complicated to understand and hard to achieve. Let’s say it is all about selling the product, but having a quota or required points each month to stay as their Consultant is something that can pressure a person. This might lead to doing something that is not as good as a fraud or false advertising for the products just to get sales.
Another thing is about the bad feedbacks about their products that are not that worth it to buy, as well as some complaints about their consultants that are doing false advertisement, maybe again because of the pressure given on requiring them to have minimum points each month as well as getting a big commission.
And lastly, the way you can earn with their company. What if selling and promoting a product is not your thing? There is a big chance that you will end up earning nothing with Scentsy right? After all the research I have done with this eye-opening review for Scentsy, I can say that this company is legit. However, earning money with them is really complicated and will require a lot of patience and skills to achieve it. Like having a minimum number of points or purchases for each month, I know that quota is a thing that is really hard to reach or maintain and in just one wrong move you might start again from the start.
