There are two different types of domain names you can choose from. You can pick a "niche" related domain name for your site or go for a branded domain. Each has its strengths and weaknesses.
What is a niche/keyword domain name?
Let's say you are starting a blog about vegan food for beginners, some niche related domain names could be:

- The great thing about a niche domain name is that people can identify your site subject right off the bat, increasing the CTA ( click-through rate).
- A bad thing about a niche domain name is that it can narrow down your expand possibilities. Ex, if your domain name is veganfoodrecipes.com having recipes about TBone stakes could shock some of your visitors, not to mention that it could hurt your website authority!
A niche domain name works better if you want to create content around a super-specific market niche; it's usually easier to rank as well ;).
What is a branded domain name?
How many times have you seen domains like "a-person-name.com" or website names that have nothing to do with the business itself?
For example, Amazon, who would think of naming an online superstore after a river in Brasil?
Choosing a brandable domain name can be tricky. On one side, it gives you the ability to create content about various topics (broader niche).
On the other hand, until you make a name out of "yourself" and become an authority on a matter, it can hurt your click-through rate because people won't identify your site topic on sight.
Both have their pros and cons, so make sure to choose your domain name wisely!
How do I find the cheapest domains, step by step!
For this example, I will go after a niche domain.

Remember, you will be spending endless hours building content for your new website, so make sure to pick the right domain! It can really make a difference down the road!
The first step is to go to namemesh and type in whatever comes to your mind, then go through the massive domain list. I bet it will open up your mind ;).
At this stage, I like to go "old school" grab myself a pen and a piece of paper, and note down the domains I seem fit.
TIP
If the domain you wanted is already registered, try a workaround, search for synonyms of that word, you might get a good surprise 😉
To get a massive list of synonyms, use thesaurus, this is a free tool and it's also a great asset to get ideas for semantically-related keywords when you are building content.
Now its time to get what you came for, to find the cheapest domain available!
To help me with that, I use two websites that work as a domain price comparison.
There are some critical services that domain registrars may include or not when you register a domain.
When looking for the best price, make sure to select a service that includes "whois privacy" and "SSL certificates."
Register a cheap domain using domcomp.com
Once you open the domcomp website, all you need to do is write your desired domain name (without the dot com/net/etc.) and press enter.
A list with the type of domain, prices, and registrar names will appear.
All you have to do at this moment is to choose the domain name that suits you the best. Clicking on the registrar's name will link you automatically to the registrar web page to conclude the purchase.
Remember to confirm if the registrar includes whois privacy, so you don't have your personal information like name, address, email, and phone number floating around the internet.
Register a cheap domain using tld-list.com
Once you open the tld-list website, all you need to do is write your desired domain name (without the dot com/net/etc.) and press enter.
A list with the type of domain, prices, and registrar names will appear but this one is different. Besides showing you the lowest domain purchase price, it will also show you the best renewal price and best pricing over three years. With a little more start-up investment, you will save significantly later.
